The 3rd Council District is home to over twenty (20) communities and sub-divisions, which include both the newest and some of the oldest communities in the City. These include: Allen Pond, Bowie Commons, Covington, Enfield Chase, Ensleigh, Essington, Evergreen Estates, Heather Hills, Heather Ridge, Longleaf, Longridge, North Oak, Northview, Oak Pond/PG Oak Pond, Olde Stage Knolls, Palisades, Princeton Square, Vistas, Westview, Woodmore Estates & Woodmore Highlands.
Our community represents a diverse cross-section of our population - by income, age, race, gender - which is reflective of the City‘s overall strength. These populations include several senior properties - Pin Oak Village, The Williows, Woodward Estates and Evergreen Estates, and the City’s Senior Center - as well as multifamily uses in Archstone at Bowie Town Center, Governor‘s Green and the Heather Ridge apartments. I believe, however, that we are united in our desire to improve the lives of every citizen and family in the City of Bowie.
The 3rd Council District is the “Heart” of Bowie’s new commercial, retail, entertainment and office center, including Bowie New Town Center, the Shoppes at Bowie Town Center, Bowie Crossing, Bowie Gateway Center, Collington Plaza, the Bowie Health Care campus and borders the Prince George‘s County Stadium. These properties and businesses provide the life blood of commerce and provide needed tax revenues for the City’s budget. The 3rd Council District also serves as a transportation gateway to the City and Region as it borders the intersections of U.S. 50, U.S. 301 and MD 197.
The 3rd Council District is also the center of Bowie’s recreational, educational and environmental activities and areas for our families and children. These include Allen Pond Park, the Bowie Gymnasium, Bowie Ice Rink, as well as several neighborhood community parks, the Collington Branch Stream Valley and the Rural Tier east of U.S 301. We have an obligation to our children and all those who come after use to preserve and expand our open spaces.
The 3rd Council District is the future home to the Green Branch Regional Park located south of US 50 and east of US 301. Once completed, this 362-acre regional facility will provide the Bowie and surrounding communities with much needed ball fields for a variety of sports activities. The 3rd District is the also home to Bowie’s only Blue Ribbon school - Heather Hills Elementary School - and Bowie’s newest school - Northview Elementary School, which opened in August 2007.
I am glad to call the 3rd Council District my home and I look forward to the opportunity to serving as your representative on the Bowie City Council for another term.
